Ernest (Tim) Placey was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, moving to Portland, Maine at the age of eight.  He graduated from Deering High School and Maine Central Institute.  After graduation, Tim joined the Maine Army National Guard, serving for 21 years.

Tim and his wife, Gladys, were married in 1966, and have since resided in Cumberland.  They have two grown children, Carrie and Glenn.

Tim was active in the Boy Scouts for 18 years.  He received his Eagle Badge and God and Country award in his early years.  He served as scoutmaster in Portland and Cumberland.  He was also on the founding committee for the Greely High School Hockey Tea.

Shaw’s Supermarket has employed Tim since 1963 starting as a meat cutter and working his way to store manager in 1973.  He retired in 2001.

In 1973, he joined the Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Club and served in the club until 1979.  On his transfer to Bath, he joined the Bath Sunrise Club in 1988 and was elected vice-president and president-elect.  While in Bath, he was elected to the Board of Directors for Elmhurst, Inc., an organization for disabled adults.  Before taking the presidency of Bath Sunrise, Tim was transferred to North Windham. He joined the Windham Rotary Club and served as Sergeant at Arms and on the Board of Directors from 1991-1996.

In 1996, Tim was transferred to Portland and joined the Casco Bay Sunrise Club. Tim served as president, was instrumental in establishing a two-ear vocational scholarship program for needy students, and organized and chaired the annual Maine Children’s Cancer Wine Tasting and Silent Auction.  He also served on the district world and community Service committee.

Tim is a Paul Harris Fellow and is a benefactor of the Rotary Foundation.  Tim is an avid fisherman, enjoys hunting and has taken up golf, after a 20-year break.
