Ginny & George Rice
George W. Rice, District Governor 1995-1996

 

George was born in Lewiston, ME, raised in Norway-Paris area, graduating from Oxford Hills High School.  After graduating from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute he was employed by H. P. Cummings Construction Co. of Ware, MA for 11 Years, working on construction projects in northern New England.  In 1977 he started G. W. Rice Construction Company.  The company performs residential, commercial and light industrial building and renovations.

 

 

He has served as a director of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, Norway Planning Board, Building Trades Advisory Committees at both Oxford Hills Technical School and Central Maine Technical College, Director and past president of the Oxford Hills Area Development Corporation.  George is a member of the Associated General Contractors of Maine and represents AGC of America on The American Lumber Standards Committee.  He and Ginny are Corporators of Western Maine Health Care Corporation.

 

George became a Rotarian in 1993 as a Charter member of the Oxford Hills Rotary Club and served as Club President in 1989-90.  He has served on several District 7780 committees and as Area 7 Representative for three years.  He is a benefactor and Multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

 

George married his high school sweetheart, Ginny Merrill in 1965.  Ginny graduated from Oxford Hills High School and Auburn Maine School of Commerce.  She has been active as a Cub Scout leader, 4-H leader and is past president of the Oxford Hills Mothers Club.  She has served as a director for Big Brothers – Big Sisters and served on the Board of Directors for MSAD #17 for six years.  Ginny is a Paul Harris Fellow.

 

They are the parents of two adult children, Michael and Georgia, and two grandchildren.

 

George enjoys his family, snowmobiling, running for fun and in local road races and tending a small herd of beef cattle and flock of sheep.  Ginny enjoys family activities, gardening, sewing and the outdoors in general.
