Greetings From The District Governor
By: Dick Hall
District Governor 2021-2022

AUGUST IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH - On the Rotary International Calendar, August is Membership and New Club Development Month.  This is an important time to ensure all members feel connected to the club and everyone is emerging from the Covid hibernation and looking around for others in the community to welcome to Rotary. Inviting someone to join Rotary is giving them a gift which will be treasured by them for years.
The Rotary International Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Vision Statement is:

Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

This is not only the right thing to do but also provides more opportunities to invite people to join Rotary.

The Polio Corner

By: Ann Lee Hussey
District Polio Chair

Welcome to the new Rotary year! As our district wrapped up a year of celebrating the many ways that Rotarians served their communities and the world, despite challenges from the pandemic, we can also be proud of the amazing progress made this year in the fight to END POLIO.

Rotary’s support, your support, has helped to keep the number of Wild Poliovirus Cases at bay, reporting only two children crippled from polio so far this year - one child in each of the remaining endemic countries of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Two children too many.

Wild poliovirus (WPV)

•  Total global WPV1 cases in YTD 2021: 2

Total global WPV1 cases in YTD 2020: 87

•  Total global WPV1 cases in Full Year 2020: 140

Rotarians: Call to Action
93,000 Deaths from Overdoses
Nationwide in 2020.

By: Bob MacKenzie,
Chair, District 7780 Recovery Initiative

Bob MacKenzie, Past-President of the Kennebunk Rotary Club, Chair of the District 7780 Recovery Initiative and Chief of Police at the Kennebunk Police Department would like to schedule a time to be your speaker.  Chief MacKenzie’s passion is fighting the opioid epidemic and substance use disorder.  Prior to the pandemic Chief MacKenzie had spoken at over 35 clubs throughout the district and beyond with a call for Rotarians to save lives and be part of the solution by offering education, reducing stigma and offering training on Narcan, the drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose

Foundation News Brief
By: Dave Underhill,
District Rotary Foundation Chair,

Greetings from your Rotary Foundation team at District 7780!

Foundation Fun Fact: 33 of our 41 clubs took part in a district or global grant during 2020-2021, that’s over 75%!

First, a quick look in the rearview mirror: THANK YOU for supporting the 2020-2021 annual fund with your energy and dollars.  The numbers are still coming in, but it’s clear that our district exceeded its goals and continues to be a leader in building the capacity of OUR foundation.

District 7780 Protection Policy
Update and Review

With the new Rotary Year, now is a good time for all clubs to revisit and review the District 7780 Protection Policy. As Rotarians we are committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all participants in Rotary activities. We also have a duty of care to protected persons we serve and with whom we interact. It is incumbent upon us to establish a culture of respect and conduct ourselves in a manner consistent with the 4-Way Test.

The District Protection Policy sets forth our individual and club responsibilities regarding our interactions. All clubs need to:

Crutches 4 Africa
A District Project Saving Lives
NEEDS NEW STORAGE SPACE.
By: Dennis Robillard,
Crutches 4 Africa
District 7780 Chair 2021-2022

Crutches 4 Africa has been a district project since 2010 and since that time the district has sent 10 forty-foot containers overseas. We will be sending our 11th on July 31, 2021. Each item we send changes someone’s life and since the district has been involved, we have changed over 30,000 lives. We have sent more containers than any group/district in the country and for that we all should be immensely proud.
