Interact District Conference

DISTRICT 7780 Annual INTERACT CONFERENCE

Saturday January 26, 2008

Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School

South Paris, Maine

Show Your Colors!

All current Interact Clubs or schools wanting to start a club are cordially invited to the Interact District Conference on Saturday, January 26 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in South Paris. Registration starts at 8:30 and the conference runs from 9:00 to 3:00. We will supply snacks and lunch, but ask that each attendee donate $5 to help defray expenses.

Each club is encouraged to wear matching (or contrasting) clothing. We want to photograph each club and the entire group, so wear your club , school or wildest colors.

We are looking into prizes for club and individual colors.  Bring pins for a pin swap.

Please bring photos and/or displays of your club at work and play, especially community service, fundraisers and projects.

Oxford Hills is collecting clothing for storm victims in the Dominican Republic (Adaica’s home country) and would appreciate donations of clean, warm weather items. No heavy down jackets or snow shoes, please.

Our program will feature a talk by the Reverend Frank Jewett as he speaks about the Gift for the Kids program which provides aid to orphans and victims of HIV/Aids in Africa. In 2006 the Reverend heard a plea from Bono when he was attending a conference and has partnered with several organizations like, One, World Vision, Central Africa Vision, Compassion, and our local Oxford Hills Center for Ethics and Advocacy in Health Care (OHCEAH) to help the thousands of children who are dying, starving and facing a life with no education to help lift them out of poverty. Elias Thomas will also speak about his upcoming trip for Polio Plus. These are two projects with major impact on our world.

We also would like to introduce one of our community service projects done in conjunction with the High School. OHCHS and our local club have collaborated on a series of high ropes elements, accessible to both the school and community. Come join us and learn teamwork and  experience the adrenalin rush of being high above the rest!

We also plan on smaller breakout sessions so clubs and Interactors can speak with exchange students, find out how to become one, share fundraiser information as well as club projects. OHCHS will share how to guarantee a blizzard (schedule a babysitter service for Holiday shoppers). And club time to process ideas and perhaps coordinate a joint project with another club.

Please come. E-mail your club name and number coming to Lynne_Schott@sad17.k12.me.us or lynneschott@hotmail.com.
