Meet the District Governor

 

   
 

Liz Cullen

District Governor 2007-2008

 

Liz Cullen has been a member of the Rotary Club of Newburyport since 1997.  She has served as secretary, treasurer, president, Interact liaison and foundation chair.   In 2003 she received the Newburyport Rotary Club’s President’s Citation for Service above Self.   Liz has served as the Chairman of the District Membership Committee, as Assistant Governor and a member of the District Conference Committee.  She has also served on the District 7780 Polio Eradication Committee, as the Chairman of the Vocational Service Committee and, in February, 2004 was a member of a NID Team to India.  Liz is a Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation. 

 

Liz is a graduate of Wheaton College, where she majored in German and minored in French and History.  She did undergraduate and graduate work in German language and literature at the University of Vienna, Austria, and received a Master’s Degree in teaching modern foreign languages from Boston University.

 

For several years Liz taught German, French, History, English and Social Studies in schools in England and in New Hampshire.  For the past twenty years, she has been the owner of The Pumpkin Patch, a children’s clothing store in Newburyport.

 

 

Liz is Vice President of the Newburyport District Nursing Service and an Incorporator of Anna Jacques Hospital Foundation.  She has served as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army in Newburyport, on the Board of Directors of Opportunity Workshop, on the Board of Directors of the Newburyport YWCA and as the treasurer of the Parents’ Committee of Shore Country Day School.   She is a lector and Eucharistic Minister as well as a former parish council member of her church.

 

Liz is married to Bernie Cullen, a partner at Cambria Consulting, in Boston.   Bernie is also a Paul Harris Fellow.   They live in Rowley, MA and are the parents of three children, Sarah, Alexander and Philip. 

 

Liz enjoys reading, especially history books, playing piano and violin, gardening, cooking, knitting, doing needlepoint and learning to speak Spanish.
